Aptis ESOL is a four-skills, computer-based English test, developed by the British Council, delivered in supervised face-to-face test sessions and regulated by the Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation (Ofqual).

Aptis ESOL is approved by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovative / Ministry of Pre-school and School education for the certification of teachers/teacher recruitment (Aptis ESOL for Teachers / Aptis ESOL Advanced) and for tertiary education and university admission (Aptis ESOL Advanced). Click here  to see the full list of institutions.

Aptis ESOL is available in three variants:

  • Aptis ESOL General, assesses levels A1 to B2 on the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR). Candidates who perform above B2 receive a C1 certificate. 
  • Aptis ESOL Advanced tests language proficiency from B1 to C2 on the CEFR.
  • Aptis ESOL for Teachers with the same format as Aptis ESOL General with content adapted for the educational context. Assesses level A1 to B2 on the CEFR. Candidates who perform above B2 receive a C1 certificate.  

With Aptis ESOL, you receive your results by email 48 to 72 hours after taking your exam.
